SSS CHT description

The Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) with unique physical and socio-economic characteristics and impact of twenty-five years of instability aspire to recover from the setbacks in the socio-economic conditions and other development indicators. As per Hill District Council Acts of 1989, HDCs are managing the provision of basic social services. The “Sustainable Social Services in Chattogram Hill Tracts Area” 2018-2020 (SSSCHT) jointly formulated by UNICEF and Government of Bangladesh, successor of Integrated Community Development Project (ICDP) under the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tract Affairs (MoCHTA) since 1996, aim to improve access and utilization of basic social services for marginalized communities in the CHT. The programme builds strategies around a “para-centre approach” where para-centres serve as a “hub” of basic services and considered the best way to reach children and families in remote area. As of 2018, a network of about 4,000 Para (Village) Centers have been established. Despite this, an addition of 1,000 para centres are required.
