The Lotus Sutra description

"Master Cheng Yen's Teachings on The Lotus Sutra" express the original intent of all Buddhas: to expound the Great Dharma of the One Vehicle, the only teaching that leads to the attainment of Buddhahood.

In this program, Dharma Master Cheng Yen combines her own words and verses with the wondrous passages and meanings of the Lotus Sutra. She presents classic commentaries from different schools along with real-life examples drawn from the life and work of volunteers at Tzu Chi Foundation. In this way, she provides teachings suitable for the modern-day Bodhisattva practitioner, helping us to realize the Buddha-Dharma in our daily living.

The Introductory Chapter reveals the conditions and intent behind the Buddha's preparations for teaching the Great Vehicle Dharma at the Lotus Dharma Assembly more than 2,500 years ago. This includes the auspicious signs before the Buddha gave teachings, the doubts that arose in the assembly and the interactions of the Bodhisattvas who explained these manifestations. This is all related to stories, events and phenomena in our modern world, thus helping listeners take the teachings to heart and begin to apply the Dharma in our lives.
