Muhammad is the central figure of Islam and is widely considered a "prophet" last sent by God to mankind to restore Islam.

Born in the Saudi city of Mecca, around 570 CE, Muhammad was orphaned at an early age; he grew up under the care of his uncle Abu Talib. After childhood, Muhammad mainly worked as a trader. Occasionally, he would retreat to a cave called Hira in the mountains for a few nights of seclusion and prayer; then, at the age of 40, he reported being visited by Gabriel in the cave, in which he stated he received his first revelation from God. Three years after this event Muhammad started preaching these revelations publicly, stating that "God is One", that complete "surrender" to her ..

Muhammad gained few followers early, and met hostility from some Meccan tribes. To avoid persecution, Muhammad sent some of his followers to Abyssinia before he and his followers migrated from Mecca to Medina (then known as Yathrib) in the year 622 Hijra, marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar, also known as the Hijri Calendar. In Medina, Muhammad united tribes under the Constitution of Medina. In December 629, after eight years of intermittent conflict with the tribes of Mecca, Muhammad gathered an army of 10,000 Muslim converts and marched in the city of Mecca. The attack went largely uncontested and Muhammad captured the city with little bloodshed. He destroyed 360 idols in the Kaaba. [
