星洲日報創刊於1929年，經歷過英國殖民地時代、抗日時期、獨立運動，直至建國之後的今天。《星洲日報》曾二度停刊，第一次是在1942至1945年，因日軍南侵，馬、新兩地相繼淪陷而被蠫停刊；第二次是1987年遭馬來襠亞攠府援引出版和印刷法令吊銷出版准證。1988年4月8日，在現任社長丹斯里張曉占爵士及高層的努力爭取之下，《星洲日報》得以復刊。
復刊後，發行量節節上升，今已達40萬份，每天有超過140萬的馬來襠亞人閱讀《星洲日報》，你《星洲日報》不僅成為東南亞發行量最高的華文報章，也是中港台以外最大的華文日報。
2004年10月，《星洲日報》連同《光明日報》、《星洲網》及其它3份教育週刊《學海》、《星星》及《小星星》正式組成星洲媒體集團，並在吉隆坡證券交易所主要交易杠上市。
2007年1月29日，星洲媒體集團和香港明報集團宣布合併，並邀請南洋報業參與。在合併計劃下，星洲媒體將倒置收購明報企業，實現走向全球的計劃。明報企業將取代星洲媒體在大馬股票交易所主要交易杠的上市地位，成為第一家在大馬與香港雙邊上市的公司。
2008年1月，星洲媒體、南洋報業以及明報企業分別舉行股東特大。三個特大都以蠑100%的票數通過合併計劃。
新集團取名“世華媒體”，旗下中文日報包括《明報》、《星洲日報》、《光明日報》、《南洋商報》、《中國報》，以及《亞洲週刊》、《亞洲眼》等30多家雜誌。其中，《明報》在北美發行四個地方版本，分別是多倫多版、溫哥華版、紐約版與三藩市版，外加張曉占旗下公司出版的《柬埔寨星洲日報》、《印尼星洲日報》與巴布亞新幾內亞英文報《The National》，業務版圖分佈得極廣。

October 2004, "Sin Chew Daily" together with the "Guangming Daily", "Sin Chew network" and other three copies Education Week "Xuehai", "Stars" and "Little Star" Sin Chew Media Corporation duly constituted and in Kuala Lumpur listed on the Main Board of Stock Exchange.
January 29, 2007, Sin Chew Media Corporation and Ming Pao Group announced merger and invited Nanyang participation. Under the merger plan, the acquisition will be inverted Sin Chew Ming Pao Enterprise Corporation, a global plan to achieve. Ming Pao Enterprise Sin Chew will replace the Main Board of the Bursa Malaysia listing status, becoming the first company in Malaysia and Hong Kong dual listing of the company.
January 2008, Sin Chew, Nanyang and Ming Pao Enterprise were held at King. Three large are nearly 100 percent of the votes through the merger plan.
New group named "United Media", including its Chinese Daily "Ming Pao", "Sin Chew Daily", "Guangming Daily", "Nanyang Siang Pau", "China Daily", and "Asia Week", "Asian eyes" and more than 30 magazines. Among them, "Ming Pao" four places in the North American release version, namely the Toronto edition, Vancouver edition, the New York edition with the San Francisco edition, plus Tiong Hiew King's company published "Cambodia Sin Chew Daily", "Indonesia Sin Chew Daily" and the Papua New Guinea English newspaper "The National", have a very wide distribution footprint.
