Shivaji Maharaj Powade पोवाडे description

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was a Maratha king (from Maharashtra) and a member of the Bhonsle Maratha clan. Shivaji Maharaj, in 1674, carved out an enclave from the declining Adilshahi sultanate of Bijapur that formed the genesis of an independent Maratha Empire with Raigad as its capital.

Powade (Marathi lyrical format) represent evidence of important historical events. Powade are a unique medium - they combine entertainment with promotion (of, say, a social cause) because of its Geet Natya form (songs and drama). Powade reflect the society of the day, allowing historians a glimpse of social, economical, religious, and cultural aspects.
