MPASI adalah singkatan dari makanan pendamping ASI. Setiap anak yang lahir tidak dalam pertumbuhannya tidak hanya membutuhkan ASI saja, melainkan anak membutuhkan nutrisi yang lebih salah satunya dari makanan. Pada usia 6 bulan, orang tua disarankan untuk memberikan buah hatinya makanan pendamping ASI. Kadang muncul pertanyaan dibenak orang tua, bukan kah ASI saja sudah cukup? Apa ASI kurang akan nutrisinya? Bukannya ASI kurang nutrisi mom, tapi tubuh anak sangat membutuhkan tambahan nutrisi untuk tumbuh kembangnya. Tubuh bayi butuh asupan nutrisi alami lain dari luar. WHO, UNICEF, American Academy of Pediatrics, Health Canada, dan organisasi kesehatan lainnya sepakat bahwa MPASI diberikan pada usia 6 bulan, bukan 4-6 bulan.
