Ragga music (or Raggamuffin music) is a distinct sub-category of reggae or dancehall music that has been established in Jamaica the 1980s, at a time when electronic dance music has gained increased popularity throughout the world. Ragga is characterized by instrumentation that is principally comprised by electronic music, with drum machine, samplers, and synthesizers taking the lead role in its creation.

One of the main reasons that ragga music achieved faster proliferation is the fact that it is largely simpler and less expensive to produce compared to reggae which is actually performed on traditional music instruments.
