NASHRES description
Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) may progress to cirrhosis and its associated complications.
Lifestyle modification is the mainstay to induce weight loss in overweight/obese nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Resolution of steatohepatitis without fibrosis impairment is a reliable method to measure histologic changes on paired liver biopsies of NAFLD patients.
Liver biopsy is invasive, expensive, and may result in complications and thus establishing non-invasive alternatives are an important priority.
The introduction of this scoring system as a predictor of steatohepatitis resolution into daily practice should be relatively simple and will not result in extra cost.
