Em janeiro de 2010, um terremoto abalou o Haiti e fez mais de 1 milhão de desabrigados e 250 mil mortos. Em meio a esse cenário, surgiu a Missão em Apoio à Igreja Sofredora (MAIS), movida pelo desejo de responder à tragédia e ajudar a igreja haitiana.

Além do socorro em catástrofes naturais, a atuação da MAIS se desenvolveu buscando ações para fortalecer a igreja em lugares onde exista situação de guerra ou perseguição religiosa. A operação da MAIS acontece a partir do apoio e treinamento da igreja local, de forma que ela seja agente transformador da sociedade na qual está inserida.
