Highpoint Weather description

The Highpoint Weather app provides high resolution, hourly forecasts for the state of Colorado and the surrounding area, in addition to backcountry recreation tools such as snowpack history, snow metamorphosis, and detailed weather data going back to the start of the season for any location. The interface and weather forecasting data was designed to be most useful for outdoor recreationalists, whether you're a skier, backcountry splitboarder, mountain biker, ice climber, mountaineer, trail runner, or whitewater rafter.

Highpoint Weather's interface includes an elevation selector, charts, forecast uncertainty visualization, snow forecast ranges (low end and high end forecasts), and maps. The weather forecasting data uses state-of-the-art weather models similar to those used by the National Weather Service, but with the addition of bias correction, ground truthing, and climatological downscaling. It is possible to save the data offline and use it in the field with no internet connection.

The app provides an easy lookup for common ski resorts, backcountry locations, 14ers, and climbing areas, in addition to the ability to search for anywhere in the region or input coordinates directly. We also provide easy access to our handwritten forecasts, which are prepared by meteorologists and experienced outdoor recreationalists with an eye on mountaineering safety (lightning, winds) and backcountry avalanche conditions.

We will be expanding outside of Colorado shortly, but for now, the forecast region is limited to Colorado, southern Wyoming, eastern Utah, and northern New Mexico.
