Fortuna Düsseldorf trägt viele Namen. "Düsseldorfer Turn - und Sportverein Fortuna 1895 e.V." lautet die offizielle Bezeichnung des Sportvereins aus Düsseldorf - Flingern. Den Fans des Vereins ist dieser Bandwurm freilich zu lang, wenn sie ihren Klub in der Esprit Arena anfeuern. Sie nennen ihn schlicht Fortuna, die Fortunen, die Flingeraner oder auch F95 - in Anlehnung an die Aufschrift des Vereinswappens.

Gegründet wurde der Klub am 5. Mai 1895. Die größten Erfolge verbuchte die Fortuna schon früh in der Vereinshistorie: 1933 wurde die deutsche Fußballmeisterschaft gefeiert. Bisher ist es der einzige Ligatitel geblieben. Rund 50 Jahre später hatten die Düsseldorfer mit den Spielern Klaus und Peter Allofs wieder ein sportliches Hoch. 1979 und 1980 gewannen sie den DFB-Pokal. Noch immer halten die Düsseldorfer den Rekord der meisten gewonnenen Pokalpartien in Folge. 18 Spiele in Serie gewann die Fortuna in dieser Zeit. Fortuna Dusseldorf has many names. "Düsseldorfer Turn - und Sportverein Fortuna 1895 e.V." is the official name of the sports club from Dusseldorf - Flingern.
