DOS Foreign Service Careers description

This official U.S. Department of State digital brochure is designed to educate those interested in careers in U.S. diplomacy, or more specifically, diplomatic careers in the Foreign Service, and allow those who are unfamiliar with the Foreign Service to discover what it’s all about. The U.S. Department of State Foreign Service employs U.S. citizens who are either Foreign Service Officers or Specialists. As a companion to DOSCareers, the Department’s mobile app, FSO/FSS Careers explains and provides information on the five different Foreign Service Officer career tracks: Consular, Economic, Management, Public Diplomacy and Political, as well as the eight different Specialist areas: Administration, Construction Engineering, Facility Management, Information Technology, International Information and English Language Programs, Medical and Health, Office Management and Security.
