The word Qunut itself comes from the word "Qanata" which means obedient in dedication (to Allah). The law of reading qunut prayer is sunnah muakkad (ab'ad) or sunnah reinforced. But priests and scholars of different schools of thought differ on the practice of qunut prayer.
