الراي هو حركة موسيقية غنائية نشأت بالغرب الجزائري تعود أصولها إلى شيوخ الشعر الملحون أي لغة أغاني الملحون من اللهجة العامية القريبة جدا للعربية الفصحى و تأخذ جل مواضيعها من المديح الديني و المشاكل الاجتماعية ركزت اهتمامها إبان فترة الاستعمار الفرنسي على سرد مآسي السكان من صعوبة للمعيشة و آفات اجتماعية تحاول بها توعية للمستمع
