Discover the rich history of the Transportation Corps

US Army Transportation Museum description

Welcome to the United States Army Transportation Museum. The U.S. Army Transportation Museum was founded by the United States Army at Fort Eustis, Virginia, in 1959 in order to collect, preserve, educate and exhibit the history of transportation in the U.S. Army.

The Army Transportation Museum artifact collection numbers just under 7000 objects, plus another 1,000 exhibit props. The collection includes over 90 macro artifacts ranging from planes, helicopters, tugboats and landing craft to trucks, jeeps, hovercraft and trains. Some of the unique items in the collection include the only surviving gun truck from the Vietnam War and the only surviving hovercraft to see combat in Vietnam. The museum also houses a unique collection of experimental aircraft and the first helicopter to fly at the South Pole.

This museum app uses text and images to provide an overview of the rich history of the Transportation Corps from the earliest days of a new nation, through the birth of the Transportation Corps during World War II, and on through Korea, the Cold War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and into the Global War on Terror. From the thematic yards of aircraft, vessels, trucks, and trains to the chronological exhibits depicting Army Transporters over the first 238 years of our nation’s history, the Army Transportation Museum honors those who have served by preserving their stories and their history.
