******************** THE ORIGIN & HISTORY ********************

Piano music started with the invention of the fortepiano, which is the primitive version of the current piano. The fortepiano is the music instrument Mozart, Haydn, and the young Beethoven used to create their (classical) piano music. The fortepiano evolved starting in Beethoven’s time and culminated in the creation of the modern grand piano in the latter part of the 19th century. Even the Romantic movement’s (which includes Chopin, Liszt, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, and Felix Mendelssohn) music were made for pianos of that time.

Modern pianos were prevalently used by the late 19th century after mass production of pianos in factories enabled a significant number of people to afford buying one. Pianos began to appear in pubs and music halls, and it provided entertainment through a piano soloist, or with a small band. Pianists started accompanying singers, patrons dancing on a dance floor, or dancers performing right on stage.

African-American composers created fresh musical genres based on the modern piano like ragtime music, jazz piano music, Honky-tonk music, just to name a few. Many other unique rhythms and techniques were spawned during the time of the 19th century.
