Modular origami is a technique that can be used to construct several models of mathematical objects that are quite interesting and impressive. In modular origami, you combine several units that are folded from paper pieces into more complicated shapes. The sonobe unit is a simple, folded and compatible modular origami model to build various models. Here are some models that are easy to create with this unit.

Materials and tools :

- Paper (square origami paper is preferred because its folding is much better)
- Scissors (if the paper is not flat)

How to create a square paper: take plain paper and fold it diagonally. Cut the remaining strips. Open a square piece of paper your square is 8.5 inches beside it. I like to use smaller paper so I usually fold two vertical, then horizontally. This creates a fold mark that I cut into a 4-square-square sheet of 4.25 inches beside it. This seems to be a good size for modular origami.
