Kids Dress Idea description

Let's be honest, getting your kids dresses is rarely fun. More often than not, it is actually a stressful affair that leads to someone screaming. Or crying. Or both. It is especially stressful when you are short on time and trying to get out of the door quickly. My two girls decide to through tantrums about their outfits at the most inconvenient times. Just as we are getting into the car, my oldest one starts complaining about the sleeves bothering her or her pants being too long. My youngest one, on the other hand, thinks it's the funnest thing in the world to have mommy chase her around the house while getting dressed. That's why I was inspired to write this article. In the following paragraphs I will provide mom-tested solutions that have helped me make dressing my kids easier and sometimes even fun!

1. Offer choices

Kids often feel overpowered by their parents or adults in general. This is true when it comes to getting them dressed as well. An easy way to let your kids feel like they have control over the situation while still getting things done "your way" is to offer them choices. Does your little princess want to wear a pink dress or a purple dress? Is she in the mood for a skirt set or a short outfit? Pre-select 2 to 3 outfits ahead of time and let your kids pick the one they like the most.

2. Find compromise

Take a few minutes in the evening or in the morning, if time allows, to discuss an outfit with your child. Let her dig through her closet while providing feedback and see if you can agree on something. The key is to be friendly and provide guidance. Try not to be too authoritative. If she wants to wear a short-sleeve tee and it's 60 degrees out, tell her "Honey, you will get cold, it is chilly out today." If she still insists, them offer to through on a pair of jeans and grab a cadri "just in case."

3. Make it fun for both of you

Sometimes for little ones, getting dressed is just not fun enough. I already mentioned that my younger daughter finds it more entertaining to run away from me than to actually put her clothes on. What I do when she is in a silly mood is play a game with her. While putting tights or pants on I say "I am going to eat your foot!" and pretend that the sock is "eating her foot" while I am putting it on her little toes. I've sang songs and played pickaboo games with both of my girls while getting them dressed.

4. Let them dress themselves

Sometimes it's just north worth it. If you are running late or are already having a rough morning, just let the kids dress themselves. Who knows, they might surprise you!

Getting your kids dressed doesn't have to be stressful. By following one or all of the tips above you can turn it into an educational, bonding and fun experince for everyone involved!
