Đại Việt sử ký toàn thư là một thành tựu của nền văn hóa Đại Việt. Nó là một công trình biên soạn lịch sử đồ sộ của nhiều nhà sử học nổi tiẠng của nước ta, từ Lê Văn Hưu đời Trần, qua Phan Phu Tiên, Ngô Sĩ Liên, đẠn Phạm Công Trứ, Lê Hy đời Lê.

Trong suốt cả một thời gian lịch sử rất dài - hai, ba nghìn năm, dân tộc Việt Nam phải liên tục đấu tranh chống họa xâm lược của nước ngoài. Chính trong cuộc đấu tranh đầy hy sinh gian khổ, nhưng anh hùng bất khuất ấy mà dân tộc ta xây dựng và phát triển nền văn hóa độc đáo và xán lạn của mình, tiêu biểu là nền văn hóa Đại Việt thời Lý, Trần, Lê.
