Lord Krishna is the most commonly known Hindu god, is the ninth incarnation of Vishnu and his birthday is celebrated on Janmashtami. Sri Krishna is also the central figure of the Hindu Bhagavad Gita. We call him, Krishna Murari as he is always holding a flute; he is also referred to as Govinda, Gopala, Vasudeva or Madhusudhana. Krishna Bhajans are very popular among Hindus. The Radha Krishna aarti is a ritual that purifies the soul. Chanting Hare Krishna mantra is a way of seeking the Lord.

Maa Durga, the goddess of power and strength also known as Amba, Ambika, Parvathi, Shakti and Jagadamba. Maa is associated with Chandi Paath - mantra of 700 verses from the Durga Saptshakti used to worship Maa Chandi. Durga Aarti (Jay Ambe Gauri)/ Durga Bhajan / Durga Chalisa are devotional songs specially sung during the Navratri / Dussehra festival.

Lord Shiva, powerful and fascinating deity of Hindu Trinity, other two being Brahma (Creator) and Vishnu (Preserver), Shiva being the destructive form of the Almighty. Shaivism, a major sect of Hinduism, upholds the beliefs of the Lord. He is referred to as Mahadev, Bholenath, Siv Shambhu, Nilkanth, Rudra & Lord of Yoga. Shiva’s popular form - Nataraj, the dance form, represents both destruction and creation of the universe. ‘Om Namah Shivaya’ popular Vedic mantra is often chanted during meditation. His bhajans and aarti are integral part of the MahaShivratri celebrations.

Shri Ramachandra, popularly known as Lord Rama, is the seventh incarnation of Vishnu and is the main character of Ramayan, famous, timeless epic in Hindu literature. It narrates the life of Rama with Sita, Hanuman and Ravan. Ram Leela is the dramatic folk enactment of Life of Rama which lasts for ten days during the Navratri Festival / Durga Puja. Bhajan, Chalisa and aarti of Lord Rama are part of the Ram Navami festival. His popular mantra is ‘Jai Ram Jai Ram’.

Hanuman also known as Mahavira, Bajrangbali, Chiranjivi, Sankatmochan is the monkey Hindu god, an ardent devotee or ‘param bhakt’ of Lord Rama. Hanumanji is the incarnation of Lord Shiva and is the most celebrated Hindu God. Tulsidas’ Hanuman Chalisa is in praise of Lord Hanuman and verses of Sunderkand are chanted by every Hindu as the mantras helps to get rid of all problems. He actively participated in Rama’s war against Ravana to rescue Sita and he is the central figure of the Hindu epic Ramayan. His birthday is celebrated as Hanuman Jayanti.

Ganesh also addressed as Ganapati or Vinayaka is the son of Shiva and Parvati. Lord of Good Fortune, he is worshipped by every Hindu in the beginning of any auspicious activity. Bhajans and aarti mark the Ganesh Chaturthi / Vinayak Chaturthi, which is a ten-day Hindu festival celebrated in honor of Lord Ganesh. Remover of Obstacles and Lord of Beginnings, he is honored at the start of any Hindu ritual or ceremony. Ganapati mantra is recited before starting a journey.

Sai Baba of Shirdi was an Indian guru, yogi and fakir who is regarded by his Hindu and Muslim followers as a saint. His popular saying ‘Sabka Malik Ek’ (One God governs all) is associated with both Hinduism and Islam. Sai Baba led an ascetic life and emphasized the complete oneness of God ‘Allah Malik’. Through Sai Baba’s Aarti, devotees express their devotion to the lord.
